Old Church Building

Grace Missionary Baptist Church was established on a Saturday in the spring of 1932 with authority from the Pollard Baptist Church of Ashland, Kentucky. Pollard was started in 1892. The original name of Grace MBC was Calvary Baptist Church and met the very next day in the Odd Fellows Hall. Of the original men who started the church only Ray Lowe remained with the church and in 1960 was recognized for his contributions. The church bought a piece of property on B Street and built the old sanctuary in 1933. At the time the property was assessed to be worth $800.

Much of the original church records cannot be verified and the information which has been gathered was courtesy of the Ceredo Museum. â€‹They had a remarkable picture album of the

Of the current church building and a lot of old pictures detailing the history of the church. Within the pages of the old album was a handout which was used at the dedication of the new educational center. In 1961, at the educational center establishment, Elder Charles E. Stewart was the pastor, He had replaced Brother Henry Jones in November 1957. What we know of Henry Jones was bringing this quiet little church to recognition. One way he did this was to lead the church in changing the name from Calvary to Grace. Of great interest to the church now is that Sister Reva Freeman became a member around this same time and remains a faith member to this day.
